BMI Calculator FAQ

How is BMI calculated?

BMI is your weight in kilograms divided by your height in meters squared. For example, 68 kg ÷ (1.70 m × 1.70 m) = 23.5.

What is a healthy BMI?

For adults, a BMI from 18.5 to 24.9 is considered a healthy weight by the World Health Organization. Under 18.5 is underweight, 25–29.9 is overweight and 30 or more is obesity.

Is BMI accurate for everyone?

No. BMI doesn’t distinguish muscle from fat and doesn’t account for age, sex or ethnicity. It isn’t suitable for children, pregnant people or athletes. Ask a healthcare professional for a full assessment.

Can I use pounds and feet?

Yes. Switch to imperial units and enter your height in feet and inches and your weight in pounds.
